The White Room, Kenmare, is located at 22 Henry Street and is one of those rare gems that is a must to visit when you are in Kenmare or touring the Ring of Kerry.
The White Room is a second-generation family business since the 1980’s, owned by Sarah Durkin. It was Sarah’s mother June who started the business selling Irish linen and lace. Sarah started working in the business on weekends and school holidays at the age of 12 years. Sarah opened her first shop when she was 20 years old in 1994 and the Second shop in Dingle in 1999.
The business has grown and diversified since she opened her third shop, The White Room, in 2005. Sarah and her fabulous team enjoyed ten wonderful years of business in 50 Henry Street, Kenmare. Unfortunately in 2016, the premises went on fire and the entire shop was destroyed. Thankfully no one was injured in the devastating fire. Sarah being the determined lady she is literally rose from the ashes, and with the help of her amazing team relocated to 22 Henry St. and rebuilt the business. The White Room is running more successfully than ever in this beautifully restored building.
The White Room continues to sell genuine damask table linens woven in Ireland, beautiful hand finished cotton nightwear and handmade Irish Lace. The last decade has seen business diversify even more with the launch of a wide selection of decorative home wares and furniture, scented gifts, vintage-style children’s clothing, cute baby ware, linen christening suits and irresistible ladies accessories.
